Hondo Creek from the 2nd FM 462 crossing south has no running water except during flash floods.  Water flows mainly underground.  There is some running water much farther north, but very little. Forgot to mention the numrous fences that cross the creek. 

The starting location is a reasonable drive from Uvalde, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking
    river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. If you hurry you can run this section in a day
but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. The natural beauty of Texas and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds  
nearby. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the 2nd FM 462 crossing to Kings Water Hole section is one of them. The 2nd FM 462 crossing to Kings Water Hole section of Hondo Creek is 12 miles long and is a class II+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Hondo Creek is a place with many visitors from Hondo. Going for a hike on the Hill Country State Natural Area Trail is always a fine adventure. From a rainfall point of view Hondo Creek is a reasonably typical site. May is the wettest month with most rain; December meanwhile is the driest month.
