Texas whitewater - Hondo Creek, Medina County Medina county, 2nd FM 462 crossing to Kings Water Hole section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II+     12 miles   Hondo Creek from the 2nd FM 462 crossing south has no running water except during flash floods.  Water flows mainly underground.  There is some running water much farther north, but very little. Forgot to mention the numrous fences that cross the creek.  Says This section of Hondo Creek in Texas is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Texas and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. There are no other sections to paddle along Hondo Creek than the 2nd FM 462 crossing     to Kings Water Hole section. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good spots for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's camping available near Hondo Creek. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Texas are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
