CLASS II+ 12 miles
The natural beauty of Texas and the water flowing gracefully down Hondo Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Hondo Creek in Medina County is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Hondo Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the 2nd FM 462 crossing to Kings Water Hole section is the only one. This section is long enough
for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you
want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average Texas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
