Texas whitewater, Independence Creek

Terrell county, FM 2400 to Pecos River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II+     24 miles
The scenic beauty of Texas and the water flowing gracefully down Independence Creek beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. And of course,
there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Independence Creek in Texas is 24 miles long and it is classified as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. The FM 2400 to Pecos River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches
in this river system. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The starting point is not too far from Del Rio, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
