Texas whitewater, Nueces River

Edwards Real county, FM 335 to Barksdale section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     10 miles

Please don't leave your trash by the river. I'm tired of picking it up.
Thanks, and enjoy the river.
Justin R. Says Landowner

The FM 335 to Barksdale section of Nueces River in Edwards Real County is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Uvalde, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Texas and the
playfulness of the water beats anything. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not
so many other good places for that around here. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the FM 335 to Barksdale section is one of them. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The
average Texas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners.

Briefly about the general area:
Near Nueces River you locate Terry Hollow which is a glorious spot to take a look at, and if you're going to from Barksdale, you won't be the only one. Around Nueces River you donít get a lot of rain. The month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; December is the month with the least moisture. High temperatures at Nueces River during the warm months are in the 90's, and the night is a little chillier of course, ordinarily in the 60's.
