The wonderful Summervell County scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting location is a short drive from Granbury, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of
people coming here. The campgrounds here at Paluxy River are pretty good. The Somervell CR 1008 to Glen Rose Park stretch is the only paddling stretch along Paluxy River. This section of Paluxy River in Texas is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American
Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime months, highs ordinarily are in the 90's at Paluxy River. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 70's.
Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 50's, and nighttime lows in the 30's for Paluxy River. Lots of people from Granbury come to Paluxy River; Wildcat Hollow is close at hand, and is a glorious place. There are good places to look at along the Dinosaur Valley State
Park Trail. Paluxy River is a good spot of normal precipitation; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here; December is when it's the driest.
