  The average Texas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Pedernales Falls SP to Hammett's Cross stretch of Pedernales River in Blanco Hays County is 14 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The wonderful Texas scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive
    a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming
back for more. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.

Through the months of summer at Pedernales River temperatures are ordinarily in the 90's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. Highs throughout the winter are typically in the 50's with temperatures at Pedernales
 
River dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights.
There's delightful hiking along the Fou Mile Loop, and the Hamilton Pool Park Trail offers hiking at its best. An average amount of rainfall falls at Pedernales River; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is December.
