  The natural beauty of Texas and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Rio Grande in Texas is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Texas are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance,
    it's good length for a morning trip. There's camping available near Rio Grande. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river,
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
It is very dried out here at Rio Grande generally; of all the months in a year September is the one with the most rain while March is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
All through the summertime months at Rio Grande temperatures are generally in the 100's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 70's. For the period of the
 
winter this place gets highs in the 60's; overnight lows in the 30's for Rio Grande. Las Burras Canyon is a glorious site to go to nearby, and the Rancherias Canyon Trail offers hiking at its best.
