Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Texas tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch of Rio Grande in Texas is 21 miles long and has been rated as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There
are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Rancherias Canyon to Lajitas stretch is one of them. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up
quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Rio Grande typically tend to be in the 100's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 70's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are commonly in the 60's, and nighttime lows during the winter for Rio Grande tend to be in the 30's. Take a hike on the Big Bend Ranch State Park Trail. At Rio Grande you don’t see much rain; most of the rain falls
during September; the driest month is March. Hiking along the Closed Canyon Trail is splendid fun; Canyon Madera is definitely a great site to check out.
