The nature scenery of Presidio County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This section of Rio Grande is 21 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II+ section of whitewater. The average Texas whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This stretch has enough mileage
for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: Rio Grande is near Canyon Madera which is positively worth a visit, and if the weather is glorious, you can go for a hike along the Closed Canyon Trail. At Rio Grande you don’t see much precipitation; September is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is March. While you're here at Rio Grande
you can take a hike along the Big Bend Ranch State Park Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 100's to Rio Grande. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 70's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are generally in the 60's, and nighttime lows in the 30's for Rio Grande.
