  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The nature scenery of Texas and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This stretch of Rio Grande is 21 miles long and it is classified as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you
    coming back for more. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Rancherias Canyon to Lajitas stretch is just one
of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

There's delightful hiking along the Big Bend Ranch State Park Trail, and Canyon
 
Madera is a glorious location to spend some time. The Closed Canyon Trail offers hiking at its best. Rio Grande gets very little rain. The month of September is the wettest with most of the rain, and March is the month with the least moisture. Through the summer months, highs typically are in the 100's at Rio Grande, and throughout the night it cools down to the 70's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 60's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Rio Grande.
