If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The wonderful Brewster County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rio Grande will make you feel great. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The campgrounds
here at Rio Grande are pretty good. The river winds through the Chisos Mountains and you get great scenery. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The Talley to Solis section of Rio Grande in Texas is 10 miles long and has been
determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Talley to Solis section is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: At Rio Grande you don’t see much rain; through August this area sees the most rain; March is when it's the driest. Be careful coming to the Chisos Mountains, you might not ever wanna go back home again. For the duration
of the days of summer highs here at Rio Grande get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Rio Grande. Hiking along the Cross Canyon Trail is brilliant fun, and going for a hike along the Mariscal Canyon Rim Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
