county,
Rio Grande Village to Stillwell Crossing section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 23 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The scenic beauty of Texas and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Rio Grande in Texas is 23 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The Rio Grande Village to Stillwell Crossing stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip,
so why not pack your camping stuff too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people
coming from far and near. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beauty of the Chisos Mountains is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: At Rio Grande all through the summertime months highs are in the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 60's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Rio Grande. There are good places to explore along the Marufa Vega Trail, and Arroyo Venado is another
wonderful site to stop by close by. So much amusing stuff to do here in the Chisos Mountains, too wonderful to be true. Don't leave Rio Grande without first going for a hike along the Strawhouse Trail. Rio Grande is pretty dried up commonly; through August this area sees the most rain, and March on the other hand is the driest.
