The Rio Grande Village to Stillwell Crossing section of Rio Grande in Brewster County is 23 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The beautiful Chisos Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might be into whitewater rafting
    or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Rio Grande Village to Stillwell Crossing section is one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the
river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.

Around Rio Grande you don’t get a lot of rainfall; during August this area sees the most rain, and March is the month with the least moisture.
 
Go for a hike on the Strawhouse Trail, and nearby you stumble on Arroyo Venado which is a nice location to explore.
All through the days of summer here at Rio Grande, high temperatures regularly get into the 90's while overnight lows are commonly in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are frequently in the 60's, and nighttime lows at Rio Grande during the wintertime typically fall into the 30's.
