The scenic beauty of Uvalde County and the water flowing gracefully down Sabinal are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Utopia to FM 187 section of Sabinal in Uvalde County is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. The Utopia to FM 187 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Sabinal. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.     Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: An average amount of rain falls at Sabinal; the wettest month of the year is commonly October, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is December. Throughout the summer months at Sabinal highs are mostly in the 90's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's.   High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 50's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Sabinal plunge into the 20's.
