Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Texas is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The beautiful scenery of Hays/ Caldwell/ Guadalupe
County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The San Marcos to Martindale stretch of San Marcos River in Hays/ Caldwell/ Guadalupe County is 11.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Briefly about the general area: San Marcos River is right by the Prospect Park Trail. Summer brings highs in the 90's to San Marcos River, and during the night it cools down to the 70's. The winter comes with highs in the
50's with temperatures at San Marcos River dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. San Marcos River gets a typical amount of annual rain; the wettest month of the year is regularly May, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is January.
