Utah whitewater - Chalk Creek, Wasatch Range, Summit County Summit county, Upton to Coalville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     15 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Utah is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This section of Chalk Creek is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.     Chalk Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Upton to Coalville section is the only one. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The campgrounds here at Chalk Creek are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Whitewater paddling here in the Wasatch Range is a great experience. The wonderful Utah scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm months at Chalk Creek highs are mostly in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 40's. Through the wintertime highs are usually in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Chalk Creek. A wonderful   place to go to near Chalk Creek is Fewkes Canyon. Chalk Creek gets very little rain; April is the month that gets the most rain while July is frequently the driest month.
