Westwater to Rose Ranch section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-IV 17 miles
This stretch of Colorado River is 17 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-IV section. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The beautiful scenery of Utah and the cool fresh water make the trip
here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Utah tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you
won't find a large number of other spots. The Westwater to Rose Ranch stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: At Colorado River you don’t see much precipitation; of all the months in a year October is the one with the most rain; February is when it's the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 90's to Colorado River, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Colorado River. A short tour to Skull
Rapids is always worthwhile. A spree to Colorado River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Sock-It-To-Me Rapids, and Colorado River is next to Trail Canyon which is beyond doubt worth checking out.
