The Westwater to Rose Ranch section of Colorado River in Grand County is 17 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The campgrounds here at Colorado River are pretty good. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so
go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Westwater to Rose Ranch section is one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: Sock-It-To-Me Rapids is always fun to check out; a magnificent location to take a look at is Trail Canyon. Colorado River is pretty waterless typically; of all the months in a year October is the one with the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Summer at Colorado River comes with high temperatures in the 90's while overnight lows are frequently in
the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and night lows throughout the winter for Colorado River tend to be in the 10's. Skull Rapids is a brilliant local attraction.
