Yeah...this river especially the lower part...really rocks. Says Brad
The scenic beauty of Utah County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Wasatch Range and you get great scenery. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Soapstone
to Deer Creek Reservoir section is one of them. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not
pack your sleeping bag too. This section of Provo River in Utah County is 25 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-IV section. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other places.
Briefly about the general area: Provo River is pretty dried out ordinarily; April is the wettest month with most rain; July is when it's the driest. All through the
summertime months at Provo River temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 40's. All through the winter the highs are commonly in the 30's with temperatures at Provo River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.
Great ride from above Woodland to the 1000 E. bridge (which is a good scare during high water, 1500 cfs). After the bridge the log jams, second diversion dam and constant river splits can be fun in the right craft (13 ft raft, not recommended). Great rush!
