The Deer Creek Reservoir to Utah Lake stretch of Provo River in Utah is 17.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-IV section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Utah tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The wild scenery of the Wasatch Range is great. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Deer Creek Reservoir to Utah Lake section is one of them. The wonderful Utah scenery and the beautiful way the
water current moves down the stream beats anything. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Provo-Orem, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking,
either way there are not so many other good places for that around here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Through
the summertime months at Provo River temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Provo River. Man, is there loads of fun stuff to do in the
Wasatch Range. Good hiking is available along the Indian Trail. There's perfect hiking along the Mount Timpanogos Trail; Pole Canyon is a pleasant location to check out. Provo River is a location that is quite dried out usually; the month of April is the wettest with most of the rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month.
