Utah whitewater - Rock Creek, Uinta Mountains, Duchesne County
Duchesne
county,
Upper Stillwater Dam to Route 134 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-V 5 miles
(...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state. Says Rob Gadd
The Upper Stillwater Dam to Route 134 stretch of Rock
Creek is 5 miles long and is a class II-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are
less demanding. The scenic beauty of Duchesne County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots
of paddling spots. This is the only paddling section along Rock Creek. The wild scenery of the Uinta Mountains is great. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
