Utah whitewater - Rock Creek, Uinta Mountains, Duchesne County
Duchesne
county,
Upper Stillwater Dam to Route 134 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-V 5 miles
(...) The section is comprised of 3 class 3+/IV- drops with swift braided channels in between. It seldom flows since most water is diverted over to the Wasatch front from the Upper Stillwater Dam (it has to spill to be runnable.) Climatologically speaking, March is actually the month of our highest precipitation (which falls as snow, building the pack which then melts in May/June.) Most people find this section of river not nearly as rewarding as other runs in the state. Says Rob Gadd
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Utah is often easier than
elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The wonderful Utah scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Upper Stillwater Dam to Route 134 section of Rock Creek
in Utah is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-V section of whitewater. The Upper Stillwater Dam to Route 134 section is the only paddling section along Rock Creek. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. The Uinta Mountains scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it
is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
