Mexican Hat to Clay Hills Crossing section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II(III) 56 miles
The beautiful scenery of Utah and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average Utah whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch of San Juan River is 56 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II(III) section. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back
for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Mexican Hat to Clay Hills Crossing section is one of them.
