Mexican Hat to Clay Hills Crossing section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II(III) 56 miles
This stretch of San Juan River is 56 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Utah you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The natural beauty of unknown County and the water flowing gracefully down San Juan River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The campgrounds here at San Juan River are pretty good. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so
it looks like you will be camping out. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.
