Utah whitewater - San Rafael River, Emery County

Emery county, Fuller Bottom to San Rafael Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     20 miles

It is important to note that a good part of the year the Fuller Bottom to San Rafael campground stretch does not have enough water flow to paddle. Check the flow before you make plans. Says J B

If you're coming from Price it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Fuller Bottom to San Rafael Campground section of San Rafael River is 20 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The scenic beauty of Utah and the beautiful way the
water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your
sleeping bag too. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Utah are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't
forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.

Briefly about the general area:
A tour to Virgin Spring Canyon is always fun.; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is February. During the summer months, highs regularly are in the 80's at San Rafael River; the overnight is a tad cooler of course, usually in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's while San Rafael River night low temperatures during the winter are in the 0's.
