CLASS I-III 3.3 miles
This section of Spanish Fork in Utah County is 3.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The beautiful scenery of Utah County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Utah you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that.
Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your
car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is the only paddling stretch along Spanish Fork. The starting location is a short drive from Provo-Orem, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The river winds through the Wasatch Range and you get great scenery.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the summertime months, highs frequently are in the 80's at Spanish Fork. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come
with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Spanish Fork are in the 10's. Spanish Fork is a location that is relatively dehydrated frequently; the month of April is the wettest with most of the rain, and July on the other hand is the driest. At this river you will
always have a good time. Castilla Springs is always fun to check out; close by Joes Canyon is a great site to go. And if that's not enough there's plenty more enjoyable stuff to do in the Wasatch Range. What would a place like Spanish Fork be without attention-grabbing nearby highlights like North Bench, and Cold Springs is a beautiful site to pop by while you're at Spanish Fork.
