If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Vermont you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The beautiful scenery of Vermont and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Ball Mountain Brook is 3.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. The beauty of the Green Mountains is a great plus for this river. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This is a short
paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's camping available near Ball Mountain Brook. The
put-in location is a short drive from Bennington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Ball Mountain Brook doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Metcalf Road to Jamaica State Park section is the only one.

Trail. Summer at Ball Mountain Brook comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. Highs throughout the wintertime are generally in the 30's; overnight lows during the winter for Ball Mountain Brook tend to be in the 10's. Ball Mountain
Brook gets a lot of water; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is February. Head up to Magic Mountain and strap some skis to your feet, and if the weather is splendid, you can go for a hike along the Railroad Bed Trail.
