This stretch of Big Branch in Vermont is 2.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Vermont are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Rutland, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The beautiful scenery of Rutland
County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The Green Mountains scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Big
Branch are pretty good. There are no other sections to paddle along Big Branch than the Mt. Tabor to Appalachian Trail section. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: There is a good hiking trail next to Big Branch called the Green Mountain Trail; going for a hike on the Baker Peak Trail is always a delightful adventure. High temperatures at Big Branch during the warm months
are in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; overnight lows at Big Branch all through the wintertime frequently sink into the 0's. Big Branch is a good site of common precipitation;
