The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The starting point is not too far from Lebanon, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Black River in Windsor County is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The Whitesville to Perkinsville stretch is the only paddling stretch along Black River. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough
to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. The scenic beauty of Windsor County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. Whitewater paddling here in the Green Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: Black River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the month of August is the wettest with most of
the rain, and February is when it's the driest. At Black River through the summertime highs are in the 80's while overnight lows are mostly in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while Black River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's.
