The Whitesville to Perkinsville stretch of Black River is 7.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. When you're paddling down a Green Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. There are no other stretches to paddle along Black River than the Whitesville to Perkinsville stretch. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you've been whitewater rafting and
kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of Windsor County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Black River is a quite wet place frequently with a great deal
of rainfall; August is the wettest month with most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Throughout the warm months highs here at Black River get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's; night lows at Black River during the winter frequently descend into the 10's.
