  The nature scenery of Vermont and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bennington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds
    nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of
people coming here. The Searsburg Dam to Harriman Reservoir section of Deerfield River in Windham County is 4.5 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Vermont is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.

Going for a hike on the Deerfield Ridge Trail is always a great adventure; a day on the slopes of Haystack is just what you need. During the summer at Deerfield River highs are regularly
 
in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are frequently in the 30's, and overnight lows through the winter for Deerfield River tend to be in the 0's.
The high level of precipitation makes Deerfield River a quite wet place; through August this area sees the most rain while February is typically the driest month. A journey to Sleepy Hollow is always fun.
