The put-in is not too far from Bennington, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. attract people from near and far. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is not the only paddling
stretch in this river system, there are others too. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The Searsburg Dam to Harriman Reservoir section of Deerfield River is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: Sleepy Hollow is a magnificent place to spend some time at. Deerfield River is a wet location that gets a good deal of rain; the wettest month of the year is regularly August, that's the one that rains the most,
and February on the other hand is the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Deerfield River. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Deerfield River. The slopes of Haystack are so inviting noone can resist, and you can go for a hike on the Deerfield Ridge Trail.
