Vermont whitewater - Gihon River, Green Mountains, Lamoille County Lamoille county, VT 100c to covered bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     3 miles   This stretch of Gihon River is 3 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Vermont is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The wonderful Lamoille County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Gihon River have people coming here. This is the only paddling section along Gihon River. The starting location is a short drive from Barre, please print out a copy of the road map further     down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater paddling here in the Green Mountains is a great experience. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime here at Gihon River, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's while overnight lows are commonly in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are   in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Gihon River. The high level of rain makes Gihon River a rather wet location; August is the month that gets the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest.
