Vermont whitewater - Gihon River, Green Mountains, Lamoille County Lamoille county, VT 100c to covered bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     3 miles   This section of Gihon River is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Lamoille County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Barre, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll     find lots of paddling spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The VT 100c to covered bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Gihon River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The Green Mountains scenery is wonderful. Briefly about the general area: Gihon River is a wet place that gets a lot of rain; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is February. Summertime highs   at Gihon River commonly tend to be in the 80's, and the overnight is a tad chillier of course, usually in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's; nighttime lows at Gihon River through the wintertime generally sink into the 0's.
