Vermont whitewater - Gihon River, Green Mountains, Lamoille County Lamoille county, VT 100c to covered bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     3 miles   The starting point is not too far from Barre, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Lamoille County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Vermont you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to     get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section of Gihon River is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Gihon River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the VT 100c to covered bridge section is the only one. There's camping available near Gihon River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Gihon River during the months of summer are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. Highs all through the wintertime are typically   in the 20's, and nighttime lows at Gihon River all through the wintertime generally drop into the 0's. Gihon River gets a good deal of water; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
