The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The put-in location is a short drive from Burlington-South Burlington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. This stretch of Lamoille River in Lamoille County is 11.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be
a class I-II section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of Vermont and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The
beautiful Green Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Slide Falls to Jeffersonville section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Lots of precipitation falls at Lamoille River; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain; the driest
month of the year is February. Everybody nearby loves skiing at Smugglers Notch; magnificent hiking is available along the The Long Trail. Be careful coming to the Green Mountains, you might not ever want to go back home again. Throughout the months of summer here at Lamoille
River, high temperatures typically reach the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. All through the wintertime highs are frequently in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Lamoille River temperatures drop to the 0's.
