The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Burlington-South Burlington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end
up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Lamoille River in Vermont is 11.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The nature scenery of Vermont
and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Green Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime at Lamoille River comes with high temperatures in the 80's; the nighttime is quite colder of course,
frequently in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Lamoille River temperatures plunge to the 0's. Skiing at Smugglers Notch is one of those things you just must do. All the water falling down from the sky makes Lamoille River a wet place; the month with most of the rain is August; the driest month of the year is February.
