Washington county, Waterbury Reservoir to Winooski River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I(III)     2.5 miles
The Waterbury Reservoir to Winooski River section of Little River in Washington County is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I(III) section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Barre, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The natural beauty of Washington County and the water flowing gracefully down Little River beats anything. This
is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The wild scenery
of the Green Mountains is great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The Waterbury Reservoir to Winooski River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Lodging is available near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Little River while nighttime lows are usually in the 50's. Highs throughout the winter are frequently in

the 10's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Little River sink into the 0's. That right there is heaps of amusing things already but it goes on, the Green Mountains has it all.
Little River gets a common amount of annual rainfall; through August this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. There's splendid hiking along the Stevenson Brook Trail, and the Hedgehop Hill Loop Trail offers hiking at its best.
