The 1st Hydro Dam to Winooski River section of Mad River is 2 miles long and is a class II-III+(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Mad River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the 1st Hydro Dam to Winooski River stretch is the only one. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Vermont tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here.
