The wonderful Vermont scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This section of Mad River in Washington County is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I(V) section. When you're paddling down a Green Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. sections, the Middle section is the only one. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Vermont is often easier than elsewhere,
| so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months, highs commonly are in the 60's at Mad River, and the overnight is a little chillier of course, regularly in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 10's while Mad River night low temperatures through the winter are in the 0's. From a precipitation point of view Mad River is a quite normal spot; August is the month that gets the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
