If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Addison County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. The starting point is not too far from Rutland, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. The Ripton to East Middlebury
section of Middlebury River is 2.6 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Ripton to East Middlebury section is the only paddling section along Middlebury River.
