  If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Addison County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this
    general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. The starting point is not too far from Rutland, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. The Ripton to East Middlebury
section of Middlebury River is 2.6 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Ripton to East Middlebury section is the only paddling section along Middlebury River.

Middlebury River gets a normal amount of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Yep, outdoors entertaining
 
things truly is bountiful here in the Green Mountains.
For the duration of the days of summer at Middlebury River highs are regularly in the 80's; the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, commonly in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Middlebury River are in the 0's. There is a good hiking trail next to Middlebury River called the Oak Ridge Trail; nearby you discover the Keewaydin Trail which is a good hiking trail.
