The beautiful scenery of Vermont and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Vermont you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Rutland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad
you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beauty of the Green Mountains is a great plus for this river. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might
end up sleeping in your car. The East Wallingford to Clarendon stretch is the only paddling stretch along Mill River. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The East Wallingford to Clarendon stretch of Mill River in Rutland County is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places.
Briefly about the general area: Mill River is a good location of typical rain; August is
the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. If you desire a little side trip, try Clarendon Gorge, and some good nature is available in Wallingford Municipal Forest. This river is so perfect. This site, the Green Mountains, has so much outdoors
fun stuff. While you're here at Mill River you can take a hike along the Homer Stone Trail; you can have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Keewaydin Trail. Summer at Mill River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Mill River.
