The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This stretch of New Haven River in Addison County is 1.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The put-in location is a short drive from Rutland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map
further down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The natural beauty of Vermont and the water flowing gracefully down New Haven River are in themselves reasons enough
to come here to paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is an extremely short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whitewater paddling here in the Green Mountains is a great experience. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.

time. There's fine hiking along the Beaver Meadow Trail. The Abbey Pond Trail offers hiking at its best, and there's a forest here called Lincoln Municipal Forest. High temperatures at New Haven River during the summertime are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down
to the 50's. Highs during the winter are generally in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at New Haven River. New Haven River is a good site of common precipitation; during August this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is February.
