  This section of Poultney River is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Vermont and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The starting location is a short drive from Rutland, as you can see on the road map further down.
    The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The US Route 4 to Carvers Falls Dam section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are campgrounds quite near the  
river where you can camp.

People from Fair Haven love to come to Poultney River, and obviously, everybody loves Half Moon Pond State Park. While you're here at Poultney River you can take a hike along the Glen Lake Trail, and a visit to Bomoseen State Park rejuvenates the soul. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. If the weather is wonderful here at Poultney River, you can go for a hike along the Bomoseen Hiking Loop. Poultney River gets a typical amount of rain. Most of the rain falls during August, and February on the other hand is the driest.
