The South Newfane to West River stretch of Rock     River is 3.3 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The South Newfane to West River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Rock River. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Vermont is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Rock River a wet place; the wettest month of the year is typically August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February.
