Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. If you're coming from Keene it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is the only paddling
section along Saxton's River. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Grafton to Connecticut River section of Saxton's River in Windham County is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. If you have the time you can make this a two day
trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: At Saxton's River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's; overnight lows at Saxton's River during the winter regularly dip into the 10's. If you're here, you might as well pop by Pleasant Valley. A large amount of precipitation falls at Saxton's River; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is ordinarily the driest month.
