The put-in is not too far from Bennington, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The natural beauty of Windham County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling
places. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. And of course, there
are campgrounds nearby. The Londonderry rapids stretch of West River is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the months of summer highs here at West River get into the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights
come with lows in the 10's to West River. Going for a hike on the Overlook Trail is always a good adventure, and you can never get enough of the good skiing at Magic Mountain. Man, is there loads of enjoyable things to do in the Green Mountains. Near West River you discover
the Hamilton Falls Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. The high level of rainfall makes West River a relatively wet spot; the month with most of the rain is August, and the driest of the months is February.
