The put-in location is a short drive from Bennington, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Vermont are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. For
all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Londonderry rapids section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. The wonderful Windham County scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves
reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Londonderry rapids stretch of West River in Windham County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for
lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Hamilton Falls Trail, and the slopes of Magic Mountain are so inviting noone can resist. So much entertaining stuff in the Green Mountains, just unbelievable. Hiking is a popular thing
to do around West River; Overlook Trail is a great local trail. Summertime highs at West River generally tend to be in the 80's while night lows are ordinarily in the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are typically in the 30's, and overnight lows throughout the winter
for West River tend to be in the 10's. A large amount of rainfall falls at West River; August is the month that gets the most rain; February meanwhile is the driest month.
