The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bennington, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Vermont is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery. The natural beauty of Windham County and the water flowing gracefully     down West River make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: West River gets lots of water; the wettest month of the year is usually August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. And that's not all the things to do here in the Green Mountains. The Overlook Trail offers hiking   at its best. West River is right by the Hamilton Falls Trail, and hey, Gotta ski right? Magic Mountain is a great location to do that. Through the long summer days highs here at West River get into the 80's with night lows in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to West River.
