Vermont whitewater, White River

Orange county, North Royalton to West Hartford section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II(III)     13 miles
The natural beauty of Orange County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The North Royalton to West Hartford stretch of White River is 13 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater.
Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. You might have to settle
for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. There's camping available near White River. When you're paddling down a Green Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is not the only paddling section in this
river system, there are others too. The starting location is a short drive from Lebanon, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.

Briefly about the general area:
Very picturesque scenery and good skiing is what you get at Suicide Six. Quechee State Park is a magnificent place to go if you're at White River, and the Mount Peg Foot and Bridal Trails offers hiking at its best. A river like this is too good to miss. A visit to Silver Lake State Park revitalizes the spirit, and you'll perhaps meet some people from North Pomfret here. White River is right by the Barnard Trail.
