The average Vermont whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The wonderful Vermont scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of White River is 20 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Barre, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page
so you won’t get lost. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Rochester to Bethel section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch
is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. There's camping available near White River. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. When you're paddling down a Green Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

year is a magnificent time in the Green Mountains if you go for the outdoors. right next door to White River you'll stumble on a wooded neighborhood called Bethel Town Forest, and Heap Pinnacle is a magnificent spot to pop by while in the region. Through the summer months here
at White River, high temperatures commonly get into the 70's. Summer night lows plunge down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's, and night lows at White River through the winter typically drop into the 0's. White River gets a normal amount of annual rain; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
