Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Vermont tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. If you're coming from Barre it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Windsor County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch of White River is 20 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Green Mountains is a great experience. This river
system has a few good paddling sections and the Rochester to Bethel section is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Just can't get enough of the Green Mountains. White River gets a typical amount of annual
rainfall; most of the rain falls during August; the driest month of the year is February. Bethel Town Forest is a tremendous local forest, and don't leave White River without first checking out Heap Pinnacle. At White River during the warm months highs are in the 70's; the
night is slightly colder of course, mostly in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for White River.
