The natural beauty of Washington County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Barre, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other
stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This section
of Winooski River in Vermont is 24 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff.
