Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. This section of Winooski River in Vermont is 24 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Green Mountains is great. The put-in location is a short drive from Barre, please print out a
copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The nature scenery of Vermont and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.

River sees pretty high levels of rain; the month with most of the rain is August, and February is when it's the driest. Through the long summer days at Winooski River temperatures are ordinarily in the 60's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are ordinarily in the 10's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Winooski River.
