The scenic beauty of Washington County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting point is not too far from Barre, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many runs in this
state are very easy. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Marshfield to Montpelier section of Winooski River
is 24 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too.
