If you're coming from Barre it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Washington County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside
this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This stretch is mid
length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery. The campgrounds here at Winooski River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This section of Winooski River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section.
