The wonderful Washington County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Winooski River is 5 miles long and is a class I(II) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The river winds through the Green Mountains and you get great scenery.
And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Barre, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Hedgehop Hill Loop Trail. Summer brings highs in the 60's to Winooski River. During the moonlight hours it's typically in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Winooski River
