The Chesdin Dam To Petersburg stretch of Appomattox River in Virginia is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The put-in is not too far from Richmond, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Appomattox River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Chesdin Dam To Petersburg stretch is
the only one. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip.
