CLASS II-III     6.5 miles
  The starting location is a short drive from Richmond, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Appomattox River in Chesterfield/Dinwiddie County is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The wonderful Chesterfield/Dinwiddie County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting
    and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. There are a few other stretches
in this river system that can be paddled as well. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other places. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance  
because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
You're sure to run into some friendly people from Petersburg here. Don't leave Appomattox River without dropping by Pocahontas State Park. Appomattox River sees pretty high levels of rainfall. Through the month of July you get the most rain around here while April is generally the driest month. High temperatures at Appomattox River through the days of summer are in the 80's while nighttime lows are generally in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Appomattox River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
