The scenic beauty of Virginia and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Route 58 to US Route 221 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you're coming from Mount Airy it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
