The put-in location is a short drive from Kingsport-Bristol, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Scott County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Chimney Rock Fork to Route 653 Bridge stretch of Big Stony Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system,
there are a few others too. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia
are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There's camping available near Big Stony Creek.
