The scenic beauty of Grayson County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are no other stretches to paddle along Big Wilson Creek than the Close to Mouth of Wilson     stretch. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Boone, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Big Wilson Creek during the warm days of summer are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 50's. Daytime highs   throughout the winter are in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Big Wilson Creek. Going for a hike on the Bearpen Trail is always a tremendous adventure; you can go for a hike on the First Peak Trail. These mountains rock, just look at all the fun stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Big Wilson Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is November.
