The starting location is a short drive from Harrisonburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping bag. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Briery Branch Dam to North River section     is the only paddling section along Briery Branch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The Briery Branch Dam to North River stretch of Briery Branch in Virginia is 10.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Briery Branch generally tend to be in the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's, and after the sun is down during   the wintertime temperatures at Briery Branch plunge into the 10's. Briery Branch gets a normal amount of yearly rainfall; most of the rain falls all through July, and the driest month of the year is January. Good hiking is available along the Narrow Buck Trail, and there's nice hiking along the Mud Pond Gap Trail.
