The starting location is a short drive from Charlottesville, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Buck Mountain Creek in Albermarle County is 9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The
nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in
other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Buck Mountain Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Route 610 to South Fork of Rivanna R section is the only one.
