The put-in location is a short drive from Charlottesville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Route 610 to South Fork of Rivanna R stretch of Buck Mountain Creek in Virginia is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The natural beauty of Albermarle County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. You can pitch a tent or park your RV
at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. The Route 610 to South Fork of Rivanna R section is the only paddling section along Buck Mountain Creek. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.
