If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The natural beauty of Amherst County and the water flowing gracefully down Buffalo River beats anything. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back     for more. The starting point is not too far from Lynchburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Buffalo River frequently tend to be in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. During the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Buffalo River temperatures sink to the 20's. A large amount   of rain falls at Buffalo River; the month of October is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
