The beautiful scenery of Rockbridge County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead     and pack your sleeping bag. If you're coming from Lynchburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The Effinger to Buffalo Forge stretch of Buffalo Creek is 12.5 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There's camping available near Buffalo Creek. Briefly about the general area: Buffalo Creek is a pretty wet place regularly with a large amount of precipitation;   during the month of July you get the most rain around here while December is ordinarily the driest month. Throughout the warm days of summer highs here at Buffalo Creek get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's, and night lows through the winter for Buffalo Creek tend to be in the 10's. Spring Valley is in close proximity to Buffalo Creek and is a good place.
