Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Effinger to Buffalo Forge section of Buffalo Creek is 12.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Virginia and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains     river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime at Buffalo Creek temperatures are commonly in the 80's. When the night   sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Buffalo Creek. A large amount of rain falls at Buffalo Creek; July is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is December. A spree to Spring Valley is always fun.
