This stretch of Bullpasture River in Highland/Bath County is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here
are not as hard as elsewhere. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Route 250 to Route 678 section is one of them. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking is a popular thing to do around Bullpasture River; Jerkemtight Trail is a great local trail; you could always discover Hupman Valley. Bullpasture River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; July is the wettest month with most rain while February is mostly the driest month.
Summertime highs at Bullpasture River generally tend to be in the 70's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are generally in the 30's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Bullpasture River descend into the 10's. There's magnificent hiking along the Hupman Valley Trail.
