The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The scenic beauty of Highland/Bath County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number
of good places. This stretch of Bullpasture River in Virginia is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one,
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Nearby Hupman Valley is a wonderful place to go if you're at Bullpasture River, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Bullpasture River; Hupman Valley Trail is a pleasant local trail. The high level of rain makes Bullpasture River a pretty wet location; through July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
High temperatures at Bullpasture River through the summertime are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Bullpasture River. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Jerkemtight Trail.
