The wonderful Virginia scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Bullpasture River in Highland\Bath County is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+ section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Rt. 678 to
Cowpasture River stretch is one of them. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are
lots of good places for that around here. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy.
Briefly about the general area: This river has so much to offer. At Bullpasture River through the days of summer highs are in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's; after the sun is down during the
wintertime temperatures at Bullpasture River descend into the 10's. You must undeniably go to Byrd Point if you're here at Bullpasture River, and do take a hike on the Marshall Draft Trail. A tremendous place to take a look at right next door to Bullpasture River is Bullpasture
Gorge, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Hupman Valley Trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Bullpasture River a wet place; July is when you get the most rain here while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
